All-Star Registration Now Open

Updated Wednesday May 22, 2019 by SLL.

Smithfield Little League is pleased to announce that registration for the 2019 All-Star season is now open. Registration will close promptly – and without exception for the 10, 11 and 12-year-old Majors teams – on Tuesday, May 28. The League will continue to accept registrations for the 10U AAA and 9U All-star teams after May 28.

Each player will receive a uniform, socks, belt and hat. The league will provide helmets and catcher’s gear. The registration fee covers these expenses as well as the various tournaments that teams will compete in throughout Rhode Island and other states.

Competing on an All-Star team is a special recognition of a player’s ability and requires a commitment from the player and the family. With regard to the Majors All-Star teams, if you plan to be away for vacation during the District Tournament that begins at the end of June, and could go as late as July or later, please indicate such when you register.

HOW IT WORKS
All players who register for an All-Star team are placed on a waiting list. For the selection of the 10 and 11-year-old Majors teams, all of the Majors Managers gather to select the teams. 12-year-old players in the Majors Division select by secret ballot a majority of the 12-year-old team. Due to limited roster slots, not all players may make a Majors All-star team.

INTERESTED IN MANAGING A TEAM?
If you are interested in managing an All-Star team, indicate such when you register your player through the online registration system. The league’s Board of Directors will vote on the selection of All-Star managers.

Similar to the players’ commitment, managing an All-Star team requires a considerable commitment of time and effort. All-Star managers are expected to practice regularly to provide All-Star players baseball instruction appropriate for their level of play.

TOURNAMENTS
Each manager is provided a budget to register their team tournaments of the manager’s choice. All Majors teams must compete in the Rhode Island District 4 Little League Tournament. More information about District 4 can be found on the District website.

UPDATE:
The 8U team will compete in Darlington Little League's Andreozzi Tournament scheduled for July 13 to 27.
