BURRILLVILLE, R.I.-September 30, 2013 - At an awards dinner held September 18 at Wright’s Farm attended by nearly 300, Smithfield Little League recognized the 2013 division champions, all stars and players who demonstrated good sportsmanship during the regular season. The league also recognized sponsors and other volunteers.
The 2013 AAA Division Champion Rattlers Team sponsored by Images by Bob Dicaprio were recognized. The roster includes: Josh Anderson, Jack Dwyer, Ryan Dyer, Riley Gran, Christopher Lopez, Aedan McCurdy, Brian Mignanelli, Noah Morin, Aiden Powers, Matthew Schadone and Zander Semerjian. The team was managed by Adam Gran with coaches Dennis Dwyer and Doug Dyer.
The roster for the 2013 Majors Division Champion Angels Team sponsored by KFC/ Taco Bell includes: Jacob Alfonso, Noah Anderson, Mackenzie Campbell, Nicholas Capalbo, Nicholas Casinelli, Evan and John DeChristofero, Thomas Frezza, Justin Gorgone, Jesse Greene, Anthony Lombardi and Joseph Pitrone III. The team was managed by Bill Gorgone with coach Ray Gorgone.
The Sportsmanship Award recognizes the good character of a single player on each AAA, Majors and Junior League team throughout the league. Players chosen to receive this award have a great respect for the game of baseball, play a fair game, respect their opponent and demonstrate honorable behavior in winning or losing. More than 900 Smithfield players have received the award since it was established in 1973.
Those players selected by their team coach to receive a 2013 Sportsmanship Award include (in alphabetical order):
Junior League: Jose Paiva and Jacob Ryone
Majors: Gian DiManna, Thomas Frezza, Adam Lehane, Giovanni Manzotti, Evan McCauley and Zachary Pinault.
AAA: Connor Guilfoyle, Alexander Leboeuf, Dylan Mantovani, Noah Morin, Christopher O’Lean and JoJo O’Keefe.
Those players selected to compete on the league’s All Star teams, previously announced here, were also recognized.
Rob Rianna accepted the sponsor of the year award on behalf of longtime Smithfield Little League sponsor KFC-Taco Bell. John Grundy, John Palleschi and Jacque LaFlamme received the 10 year service to youth award. For donating his time to wire the scoreboard at DiNoble Field, Paul Guarino was recognized as the Smithfield Little League Volunteer of the Year.
The league also recognized United States Coast Guard Captain Kevin O’Day as the Smithfield Little League Man of the Year. Captain O’Day began participating in little league in 1969 and rose through the ranks throughout a distinguished career of service to Captain in the United States Coast Guard.
