1.7.2015: Smithfield Youth Invited to ‘Play Ball’ this SpringUpdatedMonday February 9, 2015 bySLL.
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – January 8, 2015 – Smithfield Little League today announced that it is accepting registrations for the 2015 spring season and invites all Smithfield children born between May 1, 1996 and Dec 31, 2010 to register for an exciting season of baseball. Registration will close on Sunday, February 15.
Whether a child has played on All-Star teams or never picked up a baseball, League coaches work with players to ensure a memorable and fun baseball experience.
“Smithfield Little League- our town’s first organized youth sports program- has for 64 years provided the youth of Smithfield an opportunity to grow and transform through the game of baseball,” said Shane Moore, League president. “Teamwork, sportsmanship, determination and courage are some of character building qualities that the game of baseball, and Little League in particular, teaches children. As technology changes society, it’s so important for children to be involved in physical activates that connect them to the outside world. Every child should experience the history, ceremony, community and competition of playing baseball in Smithfield Little League.”
Fee waivers are available for eligible families as the League believes that every child, regardless of their family’s financial means, should have an opportunity to play baseball.
Smithfield Little League sponsors a number of programs for all ages and skill levels, including ‘Blast Ball’ (5 and 6-year-olds), A, AA, AAA, Majors, Junior, Senior, and Big League.
In addition the League is proud to again offer the Challenger Division which, according to Little League Baseball, was established in 1989 as a separate division to enable boys and girls with physical and mental challenges, ages 4-18, or up to age 22 if still enrolled in high school, to enjoy the game of baseball. Smithfield Little League is among more than 900 Challenger Divisions worldwide with more than 30,000 participants.
